Debate - watching movies vs reading books by Ananya and Shmrithini Sai from 4A

06-10-2025

The "Movies vs. Books" debate in 4A saw Ananya argue for cinematic relaxation against Shmrithini's case for literary imagination and vocabulary.

Good morning to one and all. I am here to share a debate that my friend and I had regarding watching movies and reading books. I prefer watching movies more. Let us see why.

Stress management:
Watching TV helps us to relax and relieve stress. A stress-free time is very important to us. Watching a good movie with a positive note helps our brain to refresh and relax.
Life lessons:
Watching TV can help a child to learn important values and life lessons. They will also be able to visually experience family bonding, kindness, and love in real time. They can also feel all kinds of emotions and can become a family bonding experience.
Educational programming:
Watching educational channels helps us to get updated with many facts and gain knowledge in all fields.
News:
We can get up-to-date news of what is going on all around the world by watching the news every day.
Multi-language:
We get familiar with other languages when we watch other language movies.
Visualising:
Any visual content helps us to remember things easily. Watching historic movies and documentaries makes it easy to remember and visualise the real scenario.
Yes, watching TV has many advantages yet it has disadvantages too. Too much of TV is not good for the eyes. Not more than one hour of screen time is okay. Hence, watch TV with some time limit or it will lead to eyesight issues.

Good morning to one and all present here. I’m here to present a debate  on the topic "Reading Books vs Watching Movies. I would choose to read a book over watching a movie. Here are some reasons why:

Reading books can be important for many reasons, including,
1. Mental stimulation: Reading can improve your memory, focus and concentration. It can also help you think analytically.
2. Vocabulary expansion: Reading can introduce you to new words, which can help you communicate more effectively.
3. Writing skills: Reading can help you learn different writing styles which can improve your writing skills.
4. Critical thinking skills: Reading can help you develop critical thinking skills.
5. Physical health: Reading can lower blood pressure and heart rate.
6. General knowledge: Reading can fill your head with new bits of information.
7. Creativity and imagination: Reading can help you expand your imaginative world.

On my first day of school,  some of my friends were speaking English fluently. I also tried to speak English but it was too tough for me. I struggled. Suddenly, an idea popped into my head! What if I read many books and developed my language skills? Yes! From that day onwards, I read many books and explored many things.
These are some points why I feel that reading books is so beneficial. Now let us see the other side, "Watching Movies." Watching moves are not good because when we see television for a long period of time, then our eyes will get affected. One good thing is that watching movies is entertaining. But, anyways reading books is better than watching movies because it improves our vocabulary, widens our imagination and also teaches us new ideas.
